Manic Depression Medication

Manic depression is also known as bipolar disorder, and is a very common condition. Even though it is very common, it is misunderstood on the whole. People who are manic depressive have mood swings, and go from feeling super elated and happy to completely depressed. Manic depressive illnesses can affect both men and women, and sometimes even children.

The first step, a warning sign that will tell you when you are suffering from manic depression is if you have a manic episode. This can refer to a number of things, but more than anything a manic episode is diagnosed if an elevated mood occurs with three or more other symptoms most of the day or nearly every day.

If you go to your doctor and they diagnose you with manic depression, treatment is going to be the next step. This is important, and you want to work towards finding a treatment as soon as you can. Fortunately there are a few different effective options when it comes to manic depression medication, and it just comes down to making sure that you choose the right one.

One manic depression medication that you may be interested in is Adapin. This is one of the first manic depression medication products that your doctor will probably suggest you take. Side effects may include drowsiness, dryness of mouth, headache, increased appetite, and tiredness or weakness.

Another manic depression medication that has proven to work very effectively is Celexa. This manic depression medication tends to cause side effects such as abdominal pain, anxiety, diarrhea, loss of appetite, stuffy or runny nose, burning, tingling, prickly feelings on skin, trembling or shaking, and tiredness or weakness, and often vomiting as well.

Depression anxiety medication can work successfully for you, but there are other things that you can do as well to stay positive and try to live as normally as you can. Just remember, never start on or stop taking any medication without your doctor’s advice. This can be very dangerous, so be careful and make sure that you take your medication as prescribed by your doctor.

One of the most important things that people taking depression medication or medication of any sort for that matter need to know is that it is important to give medication time to work. You simply cannot expect a medication to be able to work right away, and in fact most medications take up to six weeks to offer full results.

Avoiding Clinical Depression

Mental disorders are very complex and every patient is different. Therefore a doctor who is acquainted with the patient usually can make recommendations as to which approach is best for the patient. If the patient is not satisfied, perhaps the doctor can assist him in seeking other specialists. The following material may be helpful in aiding both patient and doctor to realize that several treatments are available.

No one form of treatment cures all cases of major depression. It is recognized, too, that within each field of treatment there is often a wide range of practitioners. For instance, in psychotherapy 130 different approaches are reported. Moreover, those using the nutritional approach may vary from prominent researchers who have behind them decades of study to some who have become “weekend experts” after attending a two-day seminar.

When major depression is diagnosed, one recommendation is psychotherapy—or “talk therapy.” Since a depressed person usually has greatly disturbed ideas, many have been aided by their talking to a therapist. Such professionals may include psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and others with specialized training.

Understanding Clinical Depression

Meanwhile, it could be noted that clinical depression can take many forms. Some people, for example, have what is called seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which manifests itself during a particular time of year—usually winter. “People with SAD report that their depressions worsen the farther north they live and the more overcast the weather,” says a book published by the People’s Medical Society. “While SAD has been linked mainly to dark winter days, in some cases it’s been associated with dark indoor work spaces, unseasonable cloudy spells and vision difficulties.”

What causes clinical depression? The answer is not clear. While in some cases there seems to be a genetic link, in most instances life experiences appear to play an important role. It has also been noted that it is diagnosed in twice as many women as men. But this does not mean that men are unaffected. On the contrary, it is estimated that between 5 and 12 percent of men will become clinically depressed at some point in life. When this type of depression strikes, it is all-pervasive and affects virtually every aspect of one’s life. It “shakes you to the core,” says a sufferer, “corroding your confidence, self-esteem, your ability to think straight and make decisions, and then when it reaches deep enough, it gives a few hard squeezes just to see if you can hold on.

Certainly, at this point of the discussion, it could be  observed that considering clinical depression as a serious matter is indeed an important factor to take note of. Hence, once realized that one is suffering from the said situation through understanding the signs of clinical depression, one is advised to seek professional help immediately.

Major Depression Symptoms

When it comes to depression many individuals wish to work through their condition or not let on that something is terribly wrong inside of them.  However, depression doesn’t just affect the individual, but those around. Therefore, the individual should seek help not only for themselves, but to ease the pain of those that suffer with them.

In addition, it is important for individuals who suffer from depression to realize that they do not have to hide this condition nor think that they are suffering alone.  In fact it is estimated that millions of individuals suffer from some form of depression or another.

Therefore it is important to know what depression is and some of the major depression symptoms that an individual can exhibit.

What Is Major Depression?

Depression is a debilitating disorder that affects millions of people and can prevent them from functioning normally during an episodic event.  This is because some of the major depression symptoms completely incapacitate the individual and prevent them from leading a normal life.

Specifically, when major depression hits, the individual can basically shut down and withdraw into themselves.  This in turn not only affects the individual, but can have a devastating effect on family members and friends.

In addition when it comes to depression there are generally three categories into which a depressed individual will fall.  Those three categories are dysthymic disorder, manic depression or bipolar disorder and major depression.  Major depression or clinical depression, is the most severe depressive condition of the three.

Generally, major depression is triggered by one severe or highly traumatic event in the individual’s life or maybe due to a number of accumulated events over a period of time.  Additionally, this condition may also happen once in a person’s life or maybe a continuing part of the individual’s persona.  In this event the depression is known as recurrent depression.

Also, major depression has a financial impact.  This is due to the individual’s time lost from the workplace, effect on the finances of family members, loss of productivity in the workplace, medical intervention, etc.

Major Depression Symptoms Exhibited

Major depression is a severe form of depression and therefore the corresponding major depression symptoms are equally severe.  The worst major depression symptom that can be experienced is that the individual will host suicidal thoughts.

In addition, other major depression symptoms that are exhibited include crying for no apparent reason, insomnia, weight loss or gain, loss of appetite, extreme fatigue, no sexual drive, etc.

This is a great thing because then you and your child get to become more educated on a particular child depression medication and you will get to see which is going to offer the best results to your child. Every child is different, and o one medication will affect your child differently than other.

Treatment For Depression Sufferers

Depression is a serious illness that can devastate the life of individual who is experiencing this malady.  In addition, it can adversely affect the lives of those around this individual.

In addition, it is important to note that depression is more than just feeling badly for a day or two when one is concerned over the events in one’s life that has not gone well.  In fact, it is the assertion of many medical professionals that depression is due to a chemical imbalance in the affected individual’s body.

Therefore, it is important to know what depression is.  In addition, it is important to know the major depression symptoms and the treatment for this medical condition.

What Is Depression?

Depression is more than just feeling bad on an occasional basis.  Generally, this type of depression or feeling of being occasionally melancholy is due to a situational event.  Examples of such events could include the loss of a loved one, things not going well at work, loss of money, etc.

However, when it comes to depression there seemingly doesn’t seem to be a trigger.  That is because there are no tests, such as x-rays, lab tests, etc., that can definitely pin point a particular cause for episodes of depression.  On the other hand recent studies suggest that depression is caused by a chemical imbalance within the individual’s physiology.

In addition, there are various types of depression.  Some examples of those types of depression can include clinical depression, dysthymic disorder and manic depression or bipolar disorder.

Symptoms Of Depression

Additionally, those that suffer from depression have been known to be in this state for weeks.  Also, depression is characterized by a number of symptoms.

Additionally, the different types of diagnosed states of depression can exhibit themselves in a variety of ways.  For example, if an individual is diagnosed with major depression there are specific major depression symptoms.  Those symptoms can include a weight loss or gain, insomnia, excessive fatigue, difficulty in focusing, suicidal thoughts, etc.

Treatment

First of all, it is important when talking about depression symptoms and treatment to realize that depression is not curable.  Therefore, frequency of depression episodes may be controlled, but not completely done away with.  Some of the ways in which an individual may manage depression symptoms is through three basic steps.

The first step to manage depression symptoms and providing treatment is by being involved in support groups.  By participating in a support group the individual will realize that they are not the only ones suffering from this medical condition.  In addition, a support group will provide an understanding support system through the depressive state.

Also, when discussing depression symptoms and the treatment of this condition it is important to seek professional medical help.  This is important because part of dealing with depression symptoms and treatment of this condition is done through medication.  Specifically, this medication is known as antidepressants and helps to stimulate the chemicals produced in the body to minimize episodes of depression.

For example, Paxil is known to increase the levels of serotonin.  This medication maybe indicated if the individual suffers from depression due to a decrease of serotonin in the brain.
